In the week before we broke up for half term, a group of five turned into a group of three but we didn't let that affect our choreographic process.
We were told to start to create choreography up to 3 minutes so as trio, we decided to create this by developing the gesture phrases we made last week. We made the choice to have the atmosphere of this phrase to be mainly based of the idea of being in the asylum. We made sure to do this and show this to the audience by performing the movements very sharp and strong and to have a lot of movement in unison due to us being "controlled" and using the choreographic device of unison would portray the idea of our stimulus clearly.
As we went on, we created a section and we were most proud of was when we were in a triangle formation facing stage right and we were sitting on our knees. We sway back and forth to portray us as the patients are starting to go a little bit crazy and again, using unison as the main choreographic device in this section continues to give off the impression of us being controlled mentally. There are moments in this piece of choreography that we look to the front with sharp dynamics to give the audience a creepy kind of aura. At the end of the session, we performed all of what we created in front of the rest of the class where we recieved feedback such as 'more intensity whilst executing the movements' which we all will take in to the next time when we show our piece to an audience.
In this lesson we also came across ideas for music, as I personally think its easier to choreograph with the music as you can create moments that link well with the beats in the music and in our case, it would make the sharp and sudden movements stand out more. We also looked into some scary/creepy music such as 'Tiptoe through the tulips' by Tiny Tim for an example that would equally fit into our piece.

You're choreographic process so far seems to be continually linking back to your stimulus and your movement has a clear theme which is very good. I like how you have thought about what kind of atmosphere your movements will create. How did you find the experience of getting feedback from your peers?
ReplyDeleteGetting feedback from the class was very beneficial at this stage due to us starting to build on our sections and seeing how that comes across to our audience. The next choreography session we will have the following week, we will take in what has been said to us both from our peers and the teacher and focus on them to include in our piece.
DeleteThis blog is really well explored and I can see the progress of your choreography coming together and the development through each blog. How did you find working with the gestures and developing these? Based on the feedback given in this lesson how will you develop this?
ReplyDeleteThe lesson where we created the gestures I think personally was a successful lesson as we came together as a group and chose words that we thought were well suited with our stimulus and went off that. When it came to creating the motifs from the gestures, the movement for me and my gesture came naturally and I knew what I was going to do to enhance it.
DeleteWell done. I see you have decided to make choices on the music pieces you will be using. What is the name of the piece of music? What was the feeling you felt when you first heard it?
ReplyDeleteWhen we were given the music ideas in that lesson, it definetly gave off the atmosphere we were looking for. The old fashioned songs are something us as a group will consider.
