choreography module: evaluation upon final performance

As mentioned in previous blogs, I have been injured with a badly sprained ankle and I am coming into my 4th week after the accident. Due to this unfortunately happening, I was unable to perform with my group in the choreography assessment. However, I will be performing it in the new year whether it being in January or in the Spring assessments in March.

I think it will be challenging due to us having the 3 week christmas break and not having much time to rehearse when we come back for the new term. But for me, I will spend my break rewatching the video of the piece for familiarise and learn the movement so when we do come back, we won't be spending too much with me learning the movement and we can spend the time on the formations and the timings.

As we come to the final week before the assessment, this blog will be mainly focusing on the overview on how I found the process of creating our choreography. Our choreography was solely based on the idea of being patients in a mental asylum and the patients different characteristics in particular. One of the main intensions is that we want the audience to feel the emotions we will be portraying when we perform the piece for example; one of the ending sections called 'Straitjackets', the feelings behind the movement is quiet emotional which we will show by how we perform the dynamics in the dance, facial expressions and eye contact with the audience. At the beginning of the process, we fully concentrated on our stimulus which was the picture of the hallway which is shown below. choreography module: first week

In our first choreography lesson, we got seperated in our household groups which is a group of 3 in my case. Each group was given a picture based on the arts as a political statement and as a group we had to write down our thoughts and feelings that came to mind while looking at each picture. The first picture me and my group analysed was of the navity being somewhat protected and shielded by a wall. This wall was covered in graffiti with words such as 'love' with a peace symbol as the o and a skull which could perhaps represent death. However, central of the wall seems to be a bullet hole but as we discussed further with this, because this hole is above the nativity, we thought it could represent the north star. After discovering that this artwork was created by the artist 'Banksy', we linked it back to the subject of the lesson which was arts as a political statement so we associated it with perhaps religious hate crime.
