This week was officially the week to show everyone our offical 10 minute piece. Due to changes of the timetable and being able to work on our choreography during contemporary lessons as well, we were able to create the finishing product by the end of last week.
However, before we showed our choreography on Wednesday's contemporary lesson, in our session on Monday we focused on one of the final sections which involves the idea of being in straight jackets. By portraying this idea, we will execute the movements with our arms behind our backs.
We thought about repeating certain movements from previous sections of the piece to show the contrast of being free to be restrained.
We also decided to change formations due to the use of space we need as we travel a lot in this particular section.
Due to me still being injured, I sat and observed the choreography when it was performed to the class and saw it from an outside perspective which I thought was quite beneficial when it came to feedback. I was able to tell the group after what worked and what didn't which will be the main focus of next weeks lesson, as well as recieving feedback from the teacher and peers.
I really love the idea of doing the final section with your arms behind your backs and I think this will be very impressive. It is good that you have been able to see the positive in the position that you are in and have been able to help your group because of it. What are the main areas of feedback that you gave your group?
ReplyDeleteAs I mentioned in the previous blog, when it comes to giving my group feedback, I mainly point out the obvious including if someone is out of formation or performing movements at different times or even if someone is doing the movement wrong. All of this is just to make clarity of each movement and section so when it comes to performing the choreography, everyone feels confident in the overall piece. Other pieces of feedback I gave to my group was just to perform and execute the feelings that are supposed to come across to the audience in each section so it is clear to them what is happening. Having me giving this kind of feedback every lesson has made our sessions more successful due to constantly striving to make our choreography better.
DeleteI like the idea of the straight jacket and how you are repeating previous sections to show the contrast. What is some feedback you gave to your group?

I really enjoyed reading this blog. You mentioned you sat and observed the choreography, was this helpful in seeing how the movement was performed and portrayed? Were you able to pick up on any elements to give feedback to your group?
